Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has described the newly introduced ‘Nigeria First’ policy as a critical step toward the country’s reindustrialisation.
Speaking on a televised Youth Forum on Thursday, the Minister said the policy, championed by President Bola Tinubu, would give local manufacturers a fighting chance against foreign competitors.
Without such protection, he warned, domestic industries remain vulnerable to cheaper imports from countries like China, where production costs are significantly lower.

Mr. Tunji-Ojo also praised the ‘Naira for Crude’ policy, which he said has contributed to petrol price stability despite global economic pressures.
The Federal Executive Council earlier this month approved ‘Nigeria First’ to prioritise local content in all government procurement.
The Minister expressed regret that such reforms had been delayed for decades, adding that President Tinubu is now taking bold decisions long overdue by previous administrations.
