The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, NiHSA, has issued a 15-day flood alert for 198 local government areas across 30 states and the Federal Capital Territory, warning of serious risks from August 7 to 21.
States like Adamawa, Bayelsa, Delta, Kogi, Lagos, and Zamfara face very high risk, with over 800 communities and more than 100 transport routes potentially affected.
NiHSA urged vulnerable communities to prepare evacuation plans and follow weekly forecasts and emergency directives.

Director-General Umar Mohammed called for coordinated efforts by governments and stakeholders to safeguard lives and property.
The National Emergency Management Agency reports 191 flood-related deaths in 2025, with Niger and Adamawa states hardest hit.
So far, 134,435 people have been affected, 48,000 displaced, and nearly 10,000 homes and farmlands damaged—underscoring the growing scale of Nigeria’s annual flood crisis.
