The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has announced that global operators, including AD Ports Group and DP World, have shown interest in partnering with Nigeria on reviving its national shipping carrier. He said the initiative is aimed at boosting indigenous shipping capacity and creating jobs.
According to the minister, the proposed national carrier will help retain more maritime revenue within the country while expanding Nigeria’s role in global trade. He added that the government is also focused on empowering local shipowners to compete more effectively in the sector.
Beyond the carrier plan, the government says port modernisation is underway across the country, with upgrades planned for key facilities and new deep-seaports approved in several states.Â
