Nigeria Needs $4.9bn Annually to Achieve Zero Hunger by 2030

The House of Representatives member for Imeko-Afon/Yewa North Federal Constituency, Honourable Gboyega Isiaka, has called for significant financial and security interventions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal, SDG, of zero hunger by 2030.  

Speaking on Sunday during the 26th annual global lecture of the Alumni Association of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Honourable Isiaka highlighted that Nigeria requires an estimated $4.9 billion annually to meet this critical target.

Honourable Isiaka, who chairs the House Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships, and Higher Education Financing, also underscored the severe impact of insecurity on food production. He revealed that escalating violence, particularly in the Northeast and Middle Belt regions, has forced farmers to abandon over 800,000 hectares of farmland, undermining efforts to attain food security.
