Nigeria is set to partner with the United Kingdom’s Zander Corporation to improve agricultural practices, restore degraded lands, and combat desertification. The partnership follows a £250,000 donation of afforestation technology products to Nigeria by the biotechnology firm.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, speaking during a meeting with Zander Corporation’s management in Abuja, described afforestation as key to promoting sustainable land use and enhancing long-term agricultural productivity. He stressed the need to expand the five-hectare pilot project to include vegetable farming and tree crops like cashew to maximise its potential.

Shettima assured the company of federal government support, noting that Sokoto State had already shown interest in the initiative, with Borno and Katsina expected to follow. He also praised Lord Raymond Benedict Asquith, leader of the Zander team, for committing to training Nigerian agronomists in best practices.
Lord Asquith highlighted Zander Corporation’s success in desert regions like Saudi Arabia and Morocco, where its technology has improved irrigation efficiency and established sustainable vegetation in arid soils. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
