The federal government has rejected the decision by the United States to reclassify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged violations of religious freedom. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, said in Abuja that insecurity in the country is not targeted at any religious or ethnic group.
Mr Malagi blamed what he described as “influencers” and lobby groups abroad for spreading misinformation about Nigeria’s security situation. He explained that access difficulties in some remote areas have made security response slower but assured that community policing efforts are being revived to strengthen national security.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, accused some opposition politicians of pushing false genocide claims abroad for political gain.
