His remarks come on the heels of the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where President Bola Tinubu joined other world leaders. On the final day, President Trump announced an additional 10 percent tariff on BRICS members, including Nigeria.
Ambassador Tuggar suggested the tariff move may be unrelated to Nigeria’s BRICS participation but confirmed talks were underway with Washington over new visa restrictions targeting Nigerian nationals.
He also described the recent travel curbs by the UAE as regrettable. Nigeria joined BRICS+ as a partner country earlier this year.
