The Nigerian government has reportedly forwarded most of the necessary documentation to Finland as part of the extradition process for Simon Ekpa, a prominent pro-Biafran activist. This was confirmed by General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff.
General Musa highlighted the waning influence of the ‘sit-at-home’ directive championed by Mr. Ekpa and his associates in the South-East region. He attributed this decline to ongoing military clearance operations aimed at restoring order and stability.

Mr. Ekpa, along with four others, was arrested by Finnish authorities in November 2024 on allegations of terrorism-related activities. These include incitement to violence and financing acts of terrorism. Following his arrest, a district court in Lahti ordered his remand, citing probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.
The separatist leader has been accused of leveraging social media platforms to disseminate propaganda linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. The group, which advocates for the secession of southeastern Nigeria, remains banned under the law.
