Nigeria Suspends Pilgrimages to Israel, Middle East

The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission has suspended all pilgrimages to Israel and other Middle Eastern countries due to escalating tensions in the region.

The Commission’s Executive Secretary, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, announced the decision at a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, saying the suspension affects both the Commission’s programmes and those of private pilgrimage operators until security conditions improve. He confirmed that more than 500 pilgrims from the final batch of the 2025 exercise arrived safely in Nigeria on Tuesday.

The development follows recent military strikes involving the United States, Israel and Iran, with retaliatory actions reported in parts of the Gulf.

Meanwhile, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission said the Federal Government is monitoring the situation and working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other agencies to ensure the safety of Nigerians in affected countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Iran.
