Nigeria will host the inaugural African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit from 25–27 August 2025 in Abuja, aimed at strengthening continental security cooperation and tackling emerging threats.
General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Defence Chief, said the meeting will bring together leaders from all 54 African nations, with over 90% already confirming attendance. Themed *“Combating Contemporary Threats to Regional Peace and Security in Africa”*, it will feature plenary sessions, technical panels, exhibitions, and cultural events.

Discussions will target terrorism, banditry, piracy, cyberattacks, climate-related insecurity, and resource conflicts. The summit will also push for intelligence sharing, joint training, defence technology investment, and indigenous production.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will open the event, with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed delivering the keynote. Organisers say the summit will reassert Nigeria’s leadership in African peace and security.
