Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago Sign Historic Aviation Deal

Nigeria has signed a landmark Bilateral Air Services Agreement with Trinidad and Tobago, paving the way for direct flights between West Africa and the Caribbean. The agreement, sealed in Port of Spain, ends more than 20 years of stalled negotiations.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, signed on behalf of Nigeria and described the deal as a major step towards opening up the trans-Atlantic route and deepening ties with South America and the Caribbean.

With this move, Nigeria becomes the first African country to enter into such an aviation partnership with a Caribbean nation. Officials say it could significantly reduce travel time and costs for passengers and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.

Keyamo highlighted the broader geopolitical importance of the agreement, calling it a strategic effort to strengthen cooperation among nations of the Global South in an evolving international landscape.
