Nigeria’s women’s 4×400 metres relay team has qualified for the 2026 World Relays Championships scheduled to take place in Botswana. The qualification was secured during the MTN Champs Athletics Classics held in Calabar, Cross River State.
The quartet of Patience Okon George, Anita Enaruna, Treasure Okereke and Jecinter Lawrence delivered a strong performance on the final day of the competition, finishing the race in 3 minutes, 31.14 seconds.
The result pushed Nigeria up to 21st in the global rankings and displaced Mexico from the qualification slots for the championship. Ethiopia finished second in the race with a time of 3 minutes, 38.31 seconds, while Nigeria’s B team placed third in 3 minutes, 40.50 seconds.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s men’s 4×400 metres relay team narrowly missed qualification after recording 3 minutes, 04.59 seconds, just short of the required qualifying time. Athletes have called for stronger support and funding to help improve performance in future competitions.
