The Nigerian Air Force has formally inducted its first cohort of former Junior Air Women into active service, marking a significant milestone in the force’s evolving gender inclusion policy.
In a statement on Monday, NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame confirmed that female graduates from the Air Force Girls’ Military School, AFGMS, have, for the first time, been integrated as non-commissioned officers.

Until now, such direct absorption had been exclusive to male graduates of the Air Force Military School. The newly inducted group, drawn from the AFGMS class of 2017, completed their training in August 2023 and underwent recruitment exercises at the NAF Base in Kaduna earlier this year.
The policy shift offers a structured pathway for female cadets to transition into military careers, with access to advanced training and educational opportunities within the force’s institutional framework.
NAF officials described the move as both historic and progressive.
