Troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, have arrested 39 suspected oil thieves and dismantled 18 illegal refining sites in an ongoing crackdown against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.

In Rivers State, troops intercepted 18,000 litres of stolen crude in Etche LGA and seized a truck attempting to smuggle petroleum products hidden in sawdust. Further raids along the Imo River and in Rumuekpe Forest led to the destruction of illegal refining sites and the recovery of thousands of litres of stolen crude.

Similar operations in Bayelsa’s Yenagoa and Southern Ijaw LGAs, as well as Delta’s Warri South, uncovered illicit refineries and storage sites. The army says the crackdown on oil theft remains ongoing.
