Nigerian Army denies mutiny threat, calls report false

The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports that soldiers threatened mutiny over salaries and allowances, calling the claims false and misleading. Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the report relied on anonymous sources and did not reflect the views of army personnel.

Colonel Anele stressed that mutiny is a serious offence under military law and contrary to the discipline and professionalism of the Nigerian Army, whose personnel remain loyal to the Constitution and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

She clarified that promotion increments are only one part of military pay, which also includes consolidated salaries, rank-based and operational allowances, field and hardship allowances, and other entitlements depending on deployment and qualifications.

The army spokesperson also highlighted ongoing welfare reforms for troops, including periodic salary reviews, enhanced operational allowances, better accommodation, medical care, and insurance packages for soldiers and their families.
