The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has destroyed 12 illegal refining sites, arrested 16 suspects, and recovered around 70,000 litres of stolen petroleum products in a crackdown on oil theft in the Niger Delta.
Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, disclosed in Port Harcourt on Sunday that troops, in collaboration with security agencies, dismantled six boats and intercepted nine vandalised pipelines during a week-long operation spanning Rivers and three other states.

Further clearance efforts around the Imo River led to the destruction of three illicit refineries, 43 cooking drum pots, 23 receivers, and three fibre boats, alongside 4,000 litres of stolen crude.
In Bayelsa’s Sagbama Local Government Area, troops apprehended a suspected oil thief with over 1,100 litres of illegally refined diesel. The suspect has been identified and handed over to the relevant authorities for prosecution.
