Nigerian Army Dismantles Illegal Refineries, Arrests Suspected Oil Thieves in Niger Delta

The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has announced the destruction of 25 illegal refineries and the recovery of 95,000 litres of stolen petroleum products in a coordinated crackdown on oil theft in the Niger Delta.  

Twelve suspects were arrested during the operation, which also saw troops dismantling 18 boats and other equipment allegedly used in illicit oil activities across four states in the region.

The operation, conducted in collaboration with sister security agencies, took place between 10th and 16th February 2025 in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers States.  

A statement issued in Port Harcourt on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, confirmed the development. He reiterated the Army’s commitment to tackling oil-related crimes and safeguarding the nation’s economic assets.
