Students of Government Science Secondary School in Ikara local government area of Kaduna state were rescued after an attempt to kidnap them was foiled by troops of the Nigerian Army. This is according to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in the state, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this yesterday during a press conference in Kaduna. He said the bandits invaded the school in the late hours of Saturday and attempted to abduct the students before the arrival of soldiers who engaged the criminals in a gun battle.

The attack on Government science secondary school, Ikara, comes 24 hours after armed bandits attempted to carry out a similar attack on another school in Kaduna.

The federal college of forestry mechanization, Mando, has been shut down and students asked to leave the school following Friday’s attack by armed bandits which led to the kidnap of 219 students. Although 180 of them were released, 39 still remain with their abductors. That’s according to the Kaduna state government. Their abductors had released a disturbing video that showed the kidnapped students crying for help.
