The Nigerian Army says it has killed a wanted terrorist commander, Amirul Fiya – also known as Abu Nazir – during counter-terrorism operations in Rann, Borno State.
Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele said troops of 3 Battalion repelled an ISWAP/JAS attack on 7 August, later finding the commander’s body alongside two other insurgents. Weapons, explosives, and other equipment were recovered.

In Zamfara, troops rescued two kidnapped people along the Gusau–Kaura Namoda road, while in Ebonyi, soldiers intervened in a communal clash, killing an armed man after coming under fire.
The operations also yielded rifles, ammunition, and grenades.
Lieutenant Colonel Anele said the army remains committed to working with other security agencies to protect citizens and maintain peace nationwide.
