Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have arrested nine illegal miners transporting precious stones out of Bali Local Government Area in Taraba State. The suspects were intercepted on 17 December at the Garba Chede Checkpoint, following a tip-off.
According to Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, the precious stones were hidden in sacks covered with dry grass to evade detection. The intercepted truck bore a foreign registration number, B 0515 VV.

The truck driver, Abubakar Suleiman, and eight other occupants are currently in custody as investigations continue. The Army says the operation aligns with its mission to safeguard national resources and enforce environmental laws.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to supporting civil authorities and urged residents to report suspicious activities for prompt action.
