The Nigerian box office recorded its highest first-quarter admission rates in six years, driven by a strong lineup of local and international releases. Data from the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria showed that total admissions for January through March 2026 surpassed any Q1 figure since 2020.Â
Key drivers of the surge included Behind The Scenes and Oversabi Aunty. The first quarter admission figure represents a significant percentage increase compared to the same period in 2025, though the exact percentage was not disclosed in the report.

The association’s president was quoted as saying that the results demonstrate a strong rebound for the sector. He added that industry stakeholders are hopeful that the momentum will continue into the second quarter. The final audited revenue figures for the quarter are expected to be released later in April.
