Nigerian Navy Dismantles Illegal Refining Sites in Ondo State

The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Igbokoda has successfully dismantled nine illegal oil refining sites in the Obenla community, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. The operation, which took place on January 6, 2025, also resulted in the destruction of 20,000 litres of crude oil and 15,000 litres of illegally refined diesel.

Navy Captain Aliyu Usman, Commander of the base, confirmed the operation to journalists on Thursday, stating that it was carried out based on credible intelligence. He added that the suspects involved in the illegal activities fled the scene before naval operatives arrived.

Usman also used the opportunity to advise the residents of Obenla to avoid supporting illegal refining activities, stressing the dangers they pose to the community. He emphasised the Navy’s continued commitment to curbing such illicit activities in the region.

In his statement, Usman warned criminals to abandon illegal practices and seek legitimate business opportunities, as the Nigerian Navy will not relent in its efforts to combat oil theft and environmental damage.
