Nigerian Navy Seizes 44,000 Litres of Illegal Fuel in Rivers

The Nigerian Navy says it has intercepted about 44,000 litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products and arrested eight suspects in Rivers State.

In a statement, the Director of Naval Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, said the operation was carried out under Operation Delta Sentinel in the Degema, Ogbogoro and Ogbologo areas, following credible intelligence on illegal activities.

Personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder deployed an anti-crude oil theft patrol team, which intercepted two wooden boats loaded with Automotive Gas Oil, also known as AGO. The Navy said some armed accomplices fled the scene on sighting the patrol.

The recovered products and suspects are in custody and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution. The Navy says the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb crude oil theft and illegal bunkering in Nigeria’s maritime domain.
