Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has joined the ownership group of San Diego FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). The club announced her addition to the executive team on Wednesday, with the two-time Grammy Award winner acquiring a stake in the team through her company, The Leading Vibe.

The deal was facilitated through a partnership with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm known for its involvement with NBA Africa. Tems has now become a club partner, aligning with San Diego FC’s commitment to excellence and community engagement.

In a statement, Tems, who hails from Lagos, described football as a unique way of bringing people together. She expressed excitement about helping to build something special in San Diego. Tems is also the first African female to be involved in MLS ownership.

Founded in May 2023, San Diego FC will make its debut in the MLS during the 2025 season.
