A 15-year-old autistic Nigerian artist, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, has officially set the Guinness World Record for the largest painting on a canvas by an individual.
His artwork, measuring 12,303 square metres, was unveiled at Abuja’s Eagle Square on April 2, coinciding with World Autism Awareness Day. The event, which featured the formal presentation of his Guinness World Record certificate, attracted dignitaries, art enthusiasts, and advocates for autism inclusion.

Speaking at the unveiling, Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, and Tourism, Hannatu Musawa, hailed Kanyeyachukwu’s achievement as a national pride, while UNICEF’s Cristian Munduate described it as proof that every individual, regardless of ability, has limitless potential. His father also praised his determination, noting that the feat defied initial doubts.
Kanyeyachukwu’s painting surpasses the previous world record of 9,652 square metres set in Qatar. A recognised creative talent, his works have been displayed in galleries and museums across Nigeria, Europe, and Africa, with his art debuting at the OPEC Fund for International Development exhibition in Vienna in 2018.
