Nigeria’s Defence Chief Backs Locally-Made Combat Drones

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has underscored the strategic importance of domestically produced unmanned combat aerial vehicles, UCAVs, in strengthening the country’s military capabilities.  

Speaking in Abuja at the unveiling and live demonstration of attack drones developed by Briech Unmanned Aerial Systems Limited, General Musa highlighted the growing role of advanced drone technology in addressing the evolving security landscape.

He noted that as threats become more complex and asymmetric, next-generation drones would be critical in enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces.  

The Defence Chief also called for greater collaboration with the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, to scale up production, ensuring the military’s needs are met. However, he cautioned against the proliferation of such technology, stressing that stringent safeguards must be in place to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.
