Nigerian documentary ‘Double Minority’ has been nominated for Best Documentary at the 21st Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA.
Double Minority, a documentary directed by Kadaria Ahmed and produced by Daria Media with the support of the MacArthur Foundation, explores the triumphs, challenges, and resilience of women shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
The film charts the journey of 9 Nigerian female political candidates who ran for elective offices in the 2023 election cycle, breaking barriers in a male-dominated arena.

Other nominees in the AMAA Best Documentary category are ‘The Journey East’ from the Democratic Republic of Congo, ‘The Empty Grave’ — a Tanzania and UK co-production, ‘Khartoum’ from Sudan and the UK, and ‘Ancestral Visions of the Future’, which is a collaboration between Lesotho, France, and Germany.
The AMAA, one of Africa’s most prestigious film honours which celebrates excellence and innovation across the continent’s motion picture industry.
