The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) says petrol consumption fell to an average of 52.9 million litres per day in November, down from 56.74 million litres recorded in October. The regulator’s latest Fact Sheet also shows that overall supply for the month increased due to higher contributions from both imports and local production.
Local refineries supplied 19.5 million litres daily in November, compared with 17.08 million litres in October. The Dangote Refinery led the rise in output, producing an average of 23.52 million litres per day as it continued to ramp up operations. The Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries recorded no petrol production during the period as all three facilities remain under maintenance or rehabilitation.
The report indicates that imports accounted for 52.1 million litres per day of the total supply, an increase driven by earlier low stock levels, end-of-year demand, and delayed offloading of vessels initially scheduled for October. The NMDPRA said NNPC acted as supplier of last resort to stabilise national inventory and ensure supply security.
