Nine Nigerian prisoners arrested in Ghana

Nine Nigerian fugitives who escaped from the Owerri Custodial Centre in Imo State have been arrested by Ghanian authorities after they entered the country illegally.

According to reports, they crossed the River Volta into Ada Foah, using a ferry where they intended to continue their journey to Accra, capital of Ghana, via commercial bus. Their identities are given as Emmanuel Obinnah Chiedozie – 27, Steve Eyenuku – 33, Enebeli Lucky – 29, Yommi Usmah – 29, Keli Ekureni -33, Freedom Yusuf – 25, Obi Onuora – 38, Patrick Chanar – 47, and Bless Eyenuku -25.

At the time of arrest, the suspects were found with Ghanaian and Nigerian currencies, personal belongings, IDs and passports.

On the 5th of April, at least 1,800 prisoners were set free after gunmen overran the facility of the Nigeria correctional service in Owerri, Imo state. Their identities were released days later.
