Nine people, including a police officer, have been killed in a series of attacks by suspected militant herders in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. The attacks, which lasted from Friday to Tuesday, affected four communities bordering Kogi State—Okwutanobe, Okpokpolo, Olegagbani, and Ikpele.
Local sources say the assailants struck Okwutanobe on Friday, killing two people, followed by further attacks in Okpokpolo and Olegagbani, each resulting in one death. On Tuesday, five people, including a police officer, were killed in Ikpele, forcing many residents to flee their homes.

Agatu LGA Chairman, Melvin Ejeh, confirmed the attacks and described them as likely reprisals over alleged cattle rustling. He appealed to the attackers to allow authorities time to investigate instead of taking the law into their own hands.
Ejeh also raised concerns about the poor road conditions in Agatu, which significantly delays security response time.
