The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, has announced plans to establish a standard film studio to support the Kannywood film industry. The Director General of the agency, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, disclosed this during an interactive session with Kannywood stakeholders organised by the PRNigeria Centre in Kano.
Mr Abdullahi said the initiative is aimed at strengthening collaboration with filmmakers and using digital innovation to grow Nigeria’s creative industry. He noted that filmmakers play a critical role in shaping public perception and behavioural change, urging them to produce content that encourages technological development beyond profit-making.
At the meeting, the founder of Image Merchants Promotion Limited, Yushau A. Shuaib, said the NITDA Digital Centre at PRNigeria in Kano has trained more than 2,500 students free of charge, mainly from Bayero University Kano, Yusuf Maitama Sule University and Kano State Polytechnic. He added that journalists in several states, including Kano, Jigawa, Enugu, Lagos and Rivers, have also benefited from the programme.
