The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has directed its affiliates to prepare for nationwide action following a deepening dispute between the Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN.
The refinery has been accused of dismissing more than 800 workers, sparking protests in Abuja, where union members blocked access to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company headquarters.

NLC President Joe Ajaero accused the refinery of violating labour laws and international conventions, describing its stance as hostile to workers’ rights. He argued that the company has operated with impunity, undermining constitutional guarantees and exploiting its workforce.
The NLC has now placed all unions on full alert, ordering mobilisation across Dangote facilities nationwide. The Congress insists its campaign will continue until workers’ rights to unionise are respected and all alleged anti-labour practices come to an end.
