Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Thursday picketed the Ministry of Steel Development headquarters in Wuse 2, Abuja, demanding improved welfare for workers.
The unions accused the Federal Government of unjustly sacking staff and suppressing workers’ rights to unionise. Protesters, led by labour leader Eche Asuzu, barricaded the main entrance of the ministry, preventing employees from accessing their offices.

Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the demonstrators condemned what they described as the poor treatment of staff in the ministry and called for immediate wage improvements.
Thursday’s protest followed a separate nationwide demonstration on Monday by the Take-It-Back Movement, which called for an end to the state of emergency in Rivers State and addressed other national grievances.
