The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, has refuted claims that it directed a suspension of gas supplies to power generation companies, commonly known as GenCos.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NMDPRA dismissed reports alleging it instructed wholesale gas suppliers to cease supplies due to outstanding payment obligations, describing such assertions as ‘false and completely unfounded.’
The regulatory body clarified that these claims bear no connection to discussions held during a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, which included representatives from the Oil Producers Trade Section, the Independent Petroleum Producers Group, and other key players in the oil and gas sector.

The statement comes in the wake of a national grid collapse that left the system recording zero megawatts by 2pm on Wednesday, according to data from the Nigerian System Operator.
The NMDPRA reiterated its commitment to ensuring the smooth operation of Nigeria’s energy sector and urged the public to disregard misleading reports.
