NMDPRA Seeks World Bank Support To Raise $22bn For Gas Development

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority is seeking the World Bank’s support to mobilise about 22 billion dollars to address Nigeria’s gas infrastructure gap. The agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Saidu Mohammed, made the call at the Decade of Gas Ministerial Roundtable held in partnership with the World Bank.

Mohammed said the first phase of the initiative focused on identifying key drivers such as supply, demand, infrastructure and pricing needed to unlock Nigeria’s gas potential. He added that the next phase will centre on execution, including increased production, investment inflows and expansion of pipeline networks.

He outlined three major gas supply corridors, including the Africa Atlantic Gas Pipeline, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, and coastal liquefied natural gas infrastructure along the Gulf of Guinea.

Mohammed said achieving the targets will require aligned regulations, reliable demand data, sustained funding and stronger regional collaboration, adding that the authority will continue to support investments through appropriate pricing and tariff policies.
