The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has dismissed reports of an explosion at the Port Harcourt Refining Company, describing the incident as a routine flare event.
Earlier media reports had suggested a fire outbreak at the facility in Rivers State, with claims that the blaze lasted around 20 minutes before being brought under control.

In a statement, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, said the situation had been fully contained and posed no risk to refinery staff, nearby communities, or the environment.
He reiterated that there was no explosion or safety threat, urging the public to disregard what he labelled as misleading reports.
