NNPP rejects US bill seeking sanctions against Kwankwaso

The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP has rejected a move by some United States lawmakers to blacklist its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over alleged severe religious freedom violations. The proposal reportedly seeks to impose a visa ban and freeze his assets.

The party was reacting to a bill sponsored in the US Congress which also names the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association and a Fulani ethnic militia in connection with the allegations.

In a statement on Wednesday, the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said Senator Kwankwaso had no involvement in religious persecution and described the move as unjustified.

The party called on US lawmakers, including Representatives Riley Moore and Chris Smith, to conduct a thorough investigation and clear Mr Kwankwaso of the allegations.
