The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP has rejected a move by some United States lawmakers to blacklist its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over alleged severe religious freedom violations. The proposal reportedly seeks to impose a visa ban and freeze his assets.
The party was reacting to a bill sponsored in the US Congress which also names the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association and a Fulani ethnic militia in connection with the allegations.
In a statement on Wednesday, the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said Senator Kwankwaso had no involvement in religious persecution and described the move as unjustified.
