Popular Nollywood actress Stella Damasus has disclosed that her family name was originally Ojukwu before being altered during the Nigerian Civil War.
Speaking in a recent interview, Damasus explained that her grandfather made the decision to change the family name from Ojukwu to avoid potential attacks. At the time, there were widespread assumptions linking her family to the late Biafran war general, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

She further clarified that ‘Damasus’ is actually her grandfather’s first name and has Greek origins. Reflecting on the long-standing mispronunciation of her surname, the actress expressed surprise that many people still struggled with it, assuming the correct pronunciation would have become common knowledge by now.
