Mohammed Alkali, Managing Director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) says the Commission has begun the construction of 18 mega schools in the sub-region.Â
The mega schools are expected to cost a total of N21.6 bn with a fence around each school, sixteen classrooms for 1,200 students, six laboratories each, and 480-capacity student hostels.Â
The NEDC has instituted an Education Endowment Fund with a seed capital of N6 billion and replenished with a 10 percent annual budget dedicated to the education sector.Â
Mr. Alkali also announced the establishment of the Centre for the Study of Violent Extremism at the University of Maiduguri which is expected to research the insurgency that has ravaged the region and train people on how to contain extremism.
