The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, says the establishment of state police will enable state governors tackle the various security challenges in their domain.
Governor Yahaya also said it is difficult for governors to exercise their powers as chief security officers of their states due to the existing structure which sees the command bases of security agencies situated in the center.

He added that he believes the bill will have easy passage through the states after it passes through the National Assembly, because, according to him, it is the states that are managing security, with many states setting up their own arm of security outfits that support the security agencies.
He commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for also showing support for the policy and expressed confidence that the National Assembly will expedite action on the issue, as he said state governors are ready to give their full support.
