Northern Women’s Coalition Condemns Abduction of Kebbi Schoolgirls, Demands Urgent Government Action

A coalition of Northern women’s groups, Voices for Inclusion and Equity for Women (VIEW), has condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. The organisation said armed men attacked the school at dawn two days ago, killed the Vice Principal, and took the girls away, describing the incident as further evidence of the continued insecurity facing school children in the region.

VIEW said the attack echoes previous mass kidnappings in Chibok, Dapchi and Jangebe, despite government commitments and funding for the Safe Schools Initiative. The group noted that communities across the North remain vulnerable and said girls already face cultural and economic obstacles to education without also risking violence and abduction.

The coalition criticised what it called the slow and fragmented security response and demanded coordinated, intelligence-led operations to rescue the girls. It also called for daily public updates and accountability from federal and state authorities.

VIEW urged leaders to treat the Maga abductions as a national emergency and warned that Northern women are tired of repeated tragedies. It said the girls must be rescued and reunited with their families without delay, insisting that Nigeria cannot claim to value its future while its daughters remain exposed to violence.
