Stakeholders in security and development met in Kaduna on Tuesday for the Northwest Summit on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, calling for a coordinated regional response to terrorism, banditry and radical ideologies destabilising the zone.
The summit, organised by PCVE-KIRH in partnership with the National Counter Terrorism Centre and other agencies, stressed that fragmented state-level efforts risk displacing threats rather than resolving them. Officials highlighted porous borders, weak governance, poverty and climate pressures as drivers of insecurity.

Representing the National Security Adviser, senior security chiefs outlined measures including intelligence sharing, deradicalisation and community empowerment, while urging states to develop local action plans.
Kaduna governor Uba Sani, represented by his security commissioner, called for a strategy that goes beyond military force and prioritises justice, inclusion and youth empowerment.
The summit’s outcomes will inform the forthcoming National PCVE Summit and a regional security framework.
