A passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Tuesday morning, causing panic among travellers. The incident happened shortly after the train departed Abuja around 11 a.m.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation confirmed the derailment of its Kaduna-bound AKTS train service. Managing Director Kayode Opeifa said it occurred at 11:09 a.m. at kilometre 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations.

According to Opeifa, emergency rescue teams, medical personnel, and nearby hospitals were immediately mobilised. Security forces, including military personnel, were deployed to assist with evacuations and ensure the safety of passengers.
The NRC said efforts are ongoing to move all stranded passengers back to Abuja safely. The cause of the derailment is yet to be established, and no casualties have been officially reported.
