The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has accused the management of Dangote Refinery of violating an agreement reached earlier this week, warning that it may resume its suspended strike. The union said resolutions brokered by the Federal Government and the Department of State Services, DSS, — including recognition of workers’ right to unionise — had already been undermined.

According to NUPENG, truck drivers were ordered to remove union stickers from their vehicles barely 48 hours after the strike was called off. The union described this as a breach of commitments signed at a meeting attended by the Finance Minister, Wale Edun, and representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
NUPENG has placed its members on alert and urged the government not to allow security agencies to be used against workers’ rights protected under Nigerian labour law.
