Obasanjo Hails Omotola as ‘National Treasure’ at Directorial Debut in Lagos

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has described Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde as “a treasure” for the nation. He made the remarks at the premiere of her directorial debut, ‘Mother’s Love’, held at Alliance Française in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Obasanjo, aged 88, attended the screening and told guests that Nigeria must preserve and support creative talents for national development. It is unusual for a former head of state to attend a film premiere in the country.

The premiere also marked Omotola’s 30th anniversary in the film industry. She began her career in the early 1990s and has featured in more than 100 films, including ‘Mortal Inheritance’, ‘Ije’, and ‘Alter Ego’.

‘Mother’s Love’ stars Olumide Owuru, Noray Nehita and Ifeanyi Kalu, and centres on themes of sacrifice. With the project, Omotola steps into directing, joining other Nigerian filmmakers who have expanded their roles within the industry.
