Obasanjo Library demands ₦3.5bn from EFCC over hotel invasion

The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library has given the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission seven days to tender a public apology over what it described as the unlawful invasion of its facilities in Abeokuta. The incident occurred last Sunday and reportedly involved EFCC operatives alongside police officers.

Managing Director Vitalis Ortese is demanding ₦3.5 billion in damages — ₦1 billion for victims allegedly injured or arrested, and ₦2.5 billion for damage to the institution’s reputation and business. He said the invasion caused financial losses and was a direct attack on the dignity of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The management is also calling for a thorough investigation into the incident, with the findings made public. It says compensation should be paid to those whose vehicles were seized and for bodily injuries suffered by more than 100 people.

Ortese warned that if the EFCC fails to meet the demands by August 20, the library will take legal action in court without further recourse to the police or the anti-graft agency. The EFCC has not yet responded to the allegations.
