Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said that the fight against corruption must start with accountability at the highest levels of government, stressing that tackling corruption among top officials would demonstrate a strong commitment to transparency and set an example for others to follow.
Chief Obasanjo made this assertion during a virtual interactive session titled “Boiling Point Arena,” hosted on Sunday night by a private radio station in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The session, which was broadcast on other local stations, centred on his legacies in government and his views on the current state of the nation.
Describing corruption as a “hydra-headed monster” deeply entrenched in Nigerian society, the former president reiterated that leadership must lead by example for anti-corruption efforts to succeed.

He also called for a consistent, day-to-day commitment to addressing corruption, while advocating for a shift in the recruitment and appointment of public officials. He insisted that political appointments should be based on merit rather than tribal or political affiliations, warning that leaders who rise through dubious means are destined to fail.
