Obidient Movement Condemns Tinubu’s Declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers

The Obidient Movement has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as a constitutional violation.

In a statement signed by its Communications Director, Nana Kazaure, the movement criticized the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu, arguing that the President lacks the authority to unilaterally remove an elected state governor.

The group called on the National Assembly to revoke the emergency rule, emphasizing that the Constitution outlines clear conditions under which a governor can vacate office — impeachment, death, or resignation.

The Obidient Movement further accused President Tinubu of contradicting his past pro-democracy stance and urged him to reconsider the decision in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy.
