Obidients manufactured #EndSARS protest to stop Tinubu’s presidential ambition, says Bisi Akande
Bisi Akande, a former governor of Osun State.

A former governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande has accused the ‘Obidient’ movement of engineering the #EndSARS protest of 2020 in an attempt to derail the presidential ambitions of Bola Tinubu. The ‘Obidients’ are supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

In an interview, Mr. Akande claimed that the protest was not only manufactured by the movement but also allegedly funded from the United States. He suggested that it was part of a broader effort to hinder Tinubu’s political career.

The APC chieftain also shared insights into his role in persuading Tinubu to run for the presidency in 2023, despite initial reluctance from the former Lagos governor. Akande stated that he encouraged Tinubu to pursue the race, emphasising that it would be for the benefit of the Yoruba ethnic group, rather than for personal gain.

The #EndSARS protest, which erupted in October 2020, was sparked by widespread outrage over police brutality, particularly by the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The protests led to the disbandment of SARS after days of demonstrations across the country.
