Ogun Government Allocates ₦498 Million to Boost Agriculture and Food Security

The Ogun State Government has invested ₦498 million to empower smallholder farmers with essential resources, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo, has disclosed. The initiative falls under the OGUN-CARES FADAMA project, aimed at enhancing food production and improving livelihoods across the state.

Speaking on Monday at Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, during the launch of farm input distribution ahead of the new planting season, Mr Owotomo announced that 8,755 farmers would benefit from the scheme. Beneficiaries will receive items such as fertilisers, herbicides, irrigation pumps, and cassava processing equipment to encourage dry-season farming and improve productivity.

In addition to crop farming, livestock farmers are also set to gain from the programme. According to the Commissioner, the government will distribute 10,000 day-old chicks, 1,000 bags of chick starter mash, 45,000 juvenile fish, 500 bags of fish crumble feed, 500 pig weaners, and 500 goat growers.
